Irishman Mark English lined up for the 800m final at the European Championships
at 33 years old.
He had been here several times before and twice come away with bronze. Twelve years of
nearly. He thought his chance had gone.
On 13 August he won it in 1:45.26, the first Irishman ever to take gold at these
championships.
